Canto is the rocksteady cli rss reader. I’ve been a user for about two years now and i am very impressed. It swallows thousands of posts like morning cereal, without crashing. I haven’t dug in and created any extensions for it, but I did use the flexibility in the tmux multiplexer so article links create new panes.
I like writing small scripts that pull news feed data from the cloud. After a point of running these scripts, I had collected more data than I knew what to do with [And hit a big wall in the process]. I ran into the problem of having data without really knowing how to parse it efficiently. What’s generally misleading about scripting languages being easy is the fact that scripting languages easily allow you to program oneself into a corner. Data objects are easier to make than they are to manipulate and maintain. I discovered that, beyond language, there is indeed an art to the design of objects.
